What we do with your data.

You have entrusted us with a drive that may hold years of memories for you, and your name/number so we can contact you regarding this. Below is an outline of all of the information we collect from you, why we need it, for how long we will keep it on file, and what options are available to you as to what we can do with the information we gather.

Last updated 7 October 2026.

// what we collect

Two different things.

We will collect your contact details using an on-line diagnosis tool, email, phone call or via a contact form. This is made up of your name, telephone number, email address and return shipping address should you wish us to post a device back.

The contents of your device are something that will be read in full during recovery to get every sector of data from your device, as there is no way to know ahead of time what parts contain your file(s). We are not browsing, indexing or using your information for anything else but getting it back to you.

// why

Why we hold it.

Quoting, and doing the recoveryTo perform our contract with you
Payment and accounting recordsLegal obligation
Website analyticsYour consent — see cookies below
Defending a legal claimOur legitimate interests

If you have health records or other special category data stored on the device, then the basis for processing is either the establishment or defence of legal claims, or your explicit consent.

// who sees it

Who else sees it.

All recovery work is carried out in-house by us. This means that your item will never be sent off-site (to a third-party lab), the data on it will not be passed to anyone else, and no part of your item or its contents will ever leave the UK.

Four providers have to handle limited data for us. Our website host has to process some of your information. The courier service that is tracking a return will also have access to your name and address only. Our accountants and our payment processor will be able to view this as part of their job. If you choose to allow us to use Google Analytics then they will also collect some limited data. We do not sell data or share it for marketing, and we disclose it only where the law requires.

Analytics data sent to Google may be processed outside of the UK, under the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses. This is the only thing leaving the country.

// how long

How long we keep it.

Recovered data on our systemsWiped 30 days after you confirm you have it, or sooner on request
Enquiries that do not become jobs12 months

// your rights

What you can ask us to do.

You are entitled to request from us a copy of all information we hold which relates to you, request corrections be made if there are inaccuracies, request for data to be erased, request use of the data to cease temporarily (i.e. "pause"), request transferable copies of this data, object to use of the data based on our own legitimate interests, or withdraw consent at any point in time.

Write to us at Tay House, 300 Bath Street, Glasgow, G2 4JR, or call us on 0141 404 0294. We reply within one month, and there is no charge.

You are able to inform us of our errors first by contacting Glasgow Data Recovery, so we can correct these before you take further action. If you wish to pursue this complaint further, you may contact the Information Commissioner’s Office, who can be contacted at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or via phone on 0303 123 1113.

// cookies

Cookies.

Everything is turned off by default. The first time you visit, a banner will appear (and it'll remember your response in a single entry on your own device).

Once you accept our use of Google Analytics, we can see which pages are viewed, and where users come from. When you deny permission, no script will be asked for: it won't even load, rather than loading and being instructed to ignore you. It is never used to identify you.

// the legal bit

We don’t automatically take any decisions about you. Every quotation made will be done by an engineer that viewed your device. If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it.
